U.S. Senator Katie Britt has been recognized as the American Farm Bureau Federation’s (AFBF) “Outstanding New Member of Congress,” an award given to lawmakers in their first term who have demonstrated strong support for agriculture.
Britt (R-Montgomery), nominated by the Alabama Farmers Federation (ALFA), has been an advocate for farmers both in Alabama and across the nation. She emphasized the critical role of agriculture in America’s economy and national security.
“I am honored to receive the ‘Outstanding New Member of Congress’ award from the American Farm Bureau Federation,” Britt said. “The importance of our family farmers and agricultural community cannot be overstated—American food security is critical to our economic security and national security. I am proud to be an unwavering champion for the hardworking men and women who tirelessly work to feed, fuel, and clothe America.”
AFBF President Zippy Duvall commended Britt’s leadership at a time when farmers and ranchers are facing economic uncertainty, rising supply costs and the absence of a modernized farm bill.
“Her leadership is needed to help address the challenges facing America’s farmers and ranchers,” Duvall said. “We need lawmakers like Senator Britt to continue working to create opportunities for America’s farmers and ranchers.”
Britt has backed several legislative initiatives aimed at strengthening the agricultural sector. She recently co-sponsored the Death Tax Repeal Act, which would permanently eliminate the federal estate tax, a measure that supporters argue would protect family farms and small businesses. Additionally, she has championed policies to prevent foreign adversaries from acquiring American farmland and has worked to bolster cybersecurity protections in the agricultural industry.
ALFA President Jimmy Parnell praised Britt’s dedication, calling her a “rising star” in the Senate.
“She grew up in rural Alabama and has already proven herself to be a strong proponent of agriculture,” Parnell said. “Senator Britt understands that farmers must thrive for rural communities to survive.”
Britt has also been an advocate for youth agricultural education, supporting resolutions that highlight the importance of the National FFA Organization in developing the next generation of leaders.
“I will continue to fight to protect the ability of Alabama farmers, cattlemen, and small business owners to live the American Dream and pass on their family’s legacy and livelihood to their children,” Britt said.
