The League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU) announced that U.S. Senator Katie Britt was named their 2023 Federal Lawmaker of the Year for Alabama and formally honored this week at the America’s Credit Unions Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C.
“Local credit unions play a vital role in supporting Main Street communities across Alabama, from equipping small businesses and families with the resources they need to providing capital to the most underserved Alabamians,” said Senator Britt.
“I am proud to partner with our state’s local financial institutions to ensure that every hardworking Alabamian, regardless of zip code, has the opportunity to achieve their American Dream.”
LSCU represents nearly 300 credit unions throughout Alabama, Florida, and Georgia, with a combined total of almost $200 billion in assets and more than 13.6 million members.

“The daughter of two small business owners, Senator Britt understands firsthand the challenges our members deal with on a daily basis as it pertains to burdensome regulation and legislation,” Grace Newcombe, Vice President of Federal Advocacy and Communications said.
According to LSCU, which represents 2.2 million members in Alabama, after being nominated by the Federal Advocacy Policy Committee, Sen. Britt was unanimously approved by the LSCU Board of Directors following discussion of her unrelenting support for credit unions and their legislative priorities, according to the group that represents
“Senator Britt has stood as a safeguard against proposals that would negatively impact consumers and upend the safety and security of the current payment system. Her steadfast support and leadership in DC are why we are proud to call her our friend and 2023 Lawmaker of the Year,” Newcombe said.
