Sen. Joni Ernst backs Katie Britt ahead of U.S. Senate runoff election

Thursday, Katie Britt’s U.S. Senate candidacy landed the support of another prominent elected official in U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa).

Ernst, who in 2014 became the first female combat veteran elected to the upper chamber of Congress, serves as vice chair of the Senate Republican Conference.

The Iowa senator serves on the Armed Services, Agriculture, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and Environment and Public Works Committees.

In a statement announcing the endorsement, Ernst asserted that Britt would be a “strong conservative fighter” as Alabama’s next senator.

“Katie Britt will be a strong conservative fighter in the U.S. Senate, and I’m happy to endorse her ahead of Alabama’s June 21 Republican primary runoff,” proclaimed Ernst. “Katie will be a tireless champion for strengthening our military, supporting our veterans, defending life, backing the blue, securing our border, and fighting for America’s family farmers. I look forward to Katie joining our Republican Conference as we take back the Senate in November and stop the Left’s radical agenda from crushing American families.”

Britt touted the support her candidacy had received from Ernst and declared that the time had come for the “next generation of conservatives” to lead the movement.

“I’m proud to have Senator Joni Ernst’s endorsement, and I look forward to working with her in the Senate to protect our values and our rights,” stated Britt. “On day one as Alabama’s Senator, I will hit the ground running to fight for the America First agenda and defend our Christian conservative values. Alabamians are rallying behind our grassroots movement because they know that it is time for the next generation of conservatives to step up and preserve the American Dream for our children and our children’s children.”

Ernst became the second member of the upper chamber to endorse Britt this week as U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) announced his endorsement of her candidacy on Tuesday.

Britt will face U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) in the June 21 Republican primary runoff election to determine who will earn the GOP nod for the seat held by retiring U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Tuscaloosa).
