Scottsboro hosts inaugural Renaissance Fair

Many visitors dressed in period costumes for the day

The Scottsboro Renaissance Faire debuted on November 9 at King Caldwell Park in Scottsboro, AL., enchanting visitors with a day of medieval fun, magical experiences, and family-friendly activities.

With a mission to create unforgettable memories, the event featured an impressive array of food vendors, live entertainment, artisans, small businesses, and games for all ages. Guests enjoyed a marketplace filled with offerings from vendors like Grimoire Goodies, Sand Mountain Bootleggers Texas Style BBQ, The Edison Candle Company, Laurel Berry Artisanal Soaps, and many more, including local sponsors such as Enchanted Trinkets and Gathering Moss Studios.

Entertainment was a major highlight, with thrilling armored combat demonstrations by Iron Swan Armored Combat and a spirited performance by Solstice, a local Celtic band. Festivities began early, with costume contest participants registering at 9:00 a.m. The opening ceremony at 9:30 set the tone for the day, followed by intense armored combat battles at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.

At 11:00 a.m., the costume contest showcased creative attire. At the same time, musicians serenaded crowds at the Old Oak Cavern stage from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Visitors also participated in unique activities like a special Lantern Lighting Ceremony at 4:00 p.m., which added a mystical touch to the day’s events. A raffle drawing and closing ceremony capped off the experience, with the festivities wrapping up at 6:00 p.m.

A local Celtic Band entertained the crowd

Sponsors such as Unclaimed Baggage, Park & 35 Vintage Clothier, and Gathering Moss Studios made the event possible. Admission was $5 per person, and children 10 and under were admitted free, ensuring accessibility for families. Many people from surrounding areas took advantage of this unique experience.

The Scottsboro Renaissance Faire has already set high expectations for future events, promising to become a beloved annual tradition for the community.
