The New York Yankees are going to be repping the Alabama Crimson Tide this season, at least by one member of their team.
While speaking with Simone Eli of Pix 11 from spring training in Florida, new Yankees pitcher Ryan Weathers gave a hearty “Roll Tide” as he revealed his younger sister is currently a member of the Alabama women’s basketball team.
“It’s awesome, all of our family nights are competitive,” Weathers said with a smile. “It’s a lot of fun, I love watching them play. My sister is a senior at Alabama so I hope they can make a good tournament run. They’ve been playing really well…I love watching women’s basketball and I love watching them play…Roll Tide.”
Weathers, who is a native of Tennessee, has spent time with the San Diego Padres and Miami Marlins throughout his career, being acquired by New York via trade this offseason. With a career 4.93 ERA across 70 appearances and close to 300 innings, he will try to take the next step with the Yankees.
As for his sister Karly Weathers, she is having a tremendous season for Alabama and averaging 10 points and more than six rebounds per game. Clearly, she and the Crimson Tide women’s team has the support of her MLB big brother.
