Rogers calls for US leave UN over lack of support for Israel

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers believes the response by the United Nations to the recent terrorist attacks in Israel is just another reason why the U.S. should leave the organization.

On Monday, the UN Human Rights Council held a moment of silence for “innocent lives” in the “occupied Palestinian territory and elsewhere,” but didn’t honor the Israelis killed in the attack by the terrorist group Hamas.

Rogers (R-Saks) blasted the move and said it’s time for America to walk away from the organization.

“Throughout my time in Congress,” Rogers posted on X, “I have introduced legislation to have the US leave the United Nations several times. This behavior is exactly why.”

The congressman also said his office is working to help Alabamians who are stuck in Israel as a result of the war.

“All residents of Alabama’s third district that are currently in Israel and trying to return home are encouraged to contact my Oxford office at 256-236-5655,” he said. “My office is ready to help any constituents work with the State Department to arrive home safely.”

Rogers responded to the attacks Saturday as well, making it clear that he stands with the people of Israel against Hamas.

“I stand with the people of Israel in the face of the cold-blooded assault that Iran-backed Hamas terrorists have launched on their home,” he said in a statement. “Israel has a steadfast right to defend itself against attacks on its people, and this barbaric attack will not go unanswered. The U.S. will continue to support our ally through robust security assistance which Israel utilizes in its self-defense. Israel remains the United States’ closest ally in the Middle East – our prayers are with the people of Israel.”
