U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) is showing his support for Israel’s air strikes against Iran because there is intelligence that indicates the Middle Eastern country would be able to produce nuclear weapons in the not too distant future.
President Donald Trump said Thursday that he will decide within the next two weeks on weather the U.S. will conduct any of it’s own military strikes in Iran.
Aderholt told CBS 42 the Iran was getting “too close” to being able to have nuclear weapons.
“Well, at this point we have these reports that they could have up to 10 or capable of making up to 10, and that’s the information that we have,” Aderholt explained. “I mean, we don’t know anything definite, but the indications are that it’s that it’s they’re pretty close, and it’s too close for comfort. As I say, Iran is the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism. They give a whole new perspective to nuclear weapons, because I believe they are the type of regime that would use them, even if to their own destruction.”

“Unlike some other countries that we deal with, they know that if they use nuclear weapons, we would use nuclear weapons, and therefore it be destruction for everyone,” he added. “I firmly believe that some of the individuals in Iran would not care that they were destroyed, as long as they could destroy Israel and destroy the United States.”
Aderholt said that he will support the president if he decides to have the U.S. military help Israel and participate in strikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities.
“You know, it’s up to him right now, but if that stopped Iran from having nuclear weapons, then I could support that. Because, like I said, I think that the most tragic thing would be for Iran to get a nuclear weapon. Because, I am afraid, they’re the type of people that would not only threaten to use it, they would use it because they have said they want to see Israel wiped off the face of the earth, and the United States wiped off and face the earth. So obviously nuclear weapons is a way to do it. So I take them at their word.”
The congressman said he also agrees with Trump’s attempt to get a deal done on the issue if possible.
“I’m hoping that over the next couple of weeks that there can be some negotiations,” he said, “that they will surrender their new nuclear capabilities and that we can move forward without any kind of action like the B2 bomber and those bombs that you’ve discussed, but you know, it’s one of those things where, at the end of the day, they just cannot allow to have nuclear weapons.”
