MONTGOMERY, Ala — Wednesday on Yellowhammer Radio with Cliff Sims, Congresswoman Martha Roby announced for the first time that fellow member of the U.S. House and rising Republican star Trey Gowdy (R-SC4) will be visiting Alabama in May.

“I’m looking forward to Trey being in Alabama’s 2nd district” Rep. Roby announced at the end of her interview. “He and I came in together and he’s a good friend and an up-and-comer in the Republican party”

Rep. Gowdy is a staunch conservative, often butting heads with more establishment Republicans, including House Speaker John Boehner. In 2011 Gowdy voted against the Speaker’s debt ceiling bill, and won the Club for Growth’s Defender of Economic Freedom award in 2012.

More recently, Rep. Gowdy was appointed as the chair of the select committee to investigate the terror attacks on the U.S. embassy in Benghazi, Libya.

“Let me tell you what sets Trey Gowdy apart from other ‘rising stars in the Republican Party,” Rep. Roby told Yellowhammer after the interview. “Trey has let his work speak for itself. He doesn’t showboat or take credit for things, he just works hard, tells it like it is, and people appreciate that.”

The event will be one of the dozens of “Meet Martha” events the congresswoman has held in the district since being elected in 2010. “Meet Martha with Special Guest Trey Gowdy” will focus on need for strong Congressional oversight and what conservative government reform looks like in the years to come.

Details of Rep. Gowdy’s trip to Alabama’s 2nd district will be released closer to the event.
