According to a recent report, the FBI’s Terrorist Explosive Device Analytical Center at Redstone Arsenal will be helping to investigate the explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck outside Trump Tower in Las Vegas. The incident occurred just hours after a deadly terrorist attack in New Orleans killed fifteen. Authorities have since said that the occupant of the Cybertruck shot himself prior to the explosion.
TEDAC, a multi-agency center, is vital for coordinating bomb-related evidence and collecting intelligence for the federal government. Experts with the facility support law enforcement, the intelligence community, the military, border protection, and science and technology partners.
Scott Sweetow, the Former Director of the FBI’s Terrorist Explosive Device Analytical Center, explained how the center will contribute to the investigation.
“What you’re trying to figure out is similar to what an arson investigator would do which is: where did this thing start? how did it start? why did it start,” Sweetow said. “Have we seen something like this before that’s unique? Was there a particular type of transmitter used? Were there types of fragmentation and shrapnel with this device?”
The law enforcement official believes it’s possible the explosion outside Trump Tower in Las Vegas and the attack in New Orleans are connected.
“I could tell right away that wasn’t a battery fire, that was an explosive,” said Sweetow after viewing a video showing the moment of detonation. “You have the incoming president at one of his properties, with his name on the front. And the signature vehicle of someone that is known to be a close advisor, it’s not hard to put two and two together and come up with four.”
“We’re either looking at the biggest coincidence in this history of the earth, which I frankly don’t believe in. You’d be foolish to look at this and not think they’re related.”
TEDAC was created in Huntsville in 2003.
