U.S. Rep. Barry Moore said aliens who have been caught driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol should be deported and not allowed back into the country.
Last week, Moore (R-Enterprise) introduced H.R. 6976 that would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to provide that aliens who have committed the offense of driving while intoxicated will become deportable. An alien is any individual who is not a U.S. citizen or U.S. national.
Moore discussed his legislation Wednesday on WVNN’s “The Yaffee Program.”
“We had a family in my home town that lost a son and daughter-in-law to an illegal who was driving under the influence and I think had already been deported a couple of times,” Moore explained. “But when they don’t have a driver’s license, they don’t have car insurance, there’s no accountability in the process and they just slap them on the wrist and send them on their way. And this drunk driver who was here illegally killed a young couple.”
The bill is currently making its way through the Judiciary Committee.
“So we’ll mark it up in Judiciary this coming week,” Moore continued, “and I feel like I will be able to get all my colleagues’ support on this, and hopefully even some of the Democrats across the aisle. And then we get it out of committee with a favorable report. I’m optimistic we’ll get it to the floor for a vote at some point.”
The congressman also reiterated his promise to vote against funding the government until there are real step taken to secure the border.
“I will not vote for another dime of funding for the federal government until we shut that border down,” he said. “That is a crisis and it doesn’t matter what party you’re in, it doesn’t matter what state you live in now. We are starting to see the results of this wide open border and 302,000 people last month crossed that border.”
Moore was referring to the pledge he signed this month with the Immigration Accountability Project.
I will not fund a woke, weaponized and wasteful government that allows dangerous criminals and child/drug traffickers to pour into our country and endanger American families.
Today, I signed the @I_A_Project pledge to oppose funding the government until the border is secure.

Republican and Democratic leaders in the Senate are currently negotiating a deal that would fund aid to Ukraine while also increase funding for border security.
