U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) is not mincing words when it comes to the issue of illegal immigration and the current crisis at the southern border.
Thursday on WVNN’s “The Dale Jackson Show,” Brooks said the border continues to be a problem because of the power of special interests groups.
“The American people are losing and the special interests are winning,” Brooks said. “I’ll use Alabama as an example. The number one border security senator was Jeff Sessions. Alabama voters took him out. The number one member of the House of Representatives was Mo Brooks, and the voters just took him out. So that’s a reflection of what’s going on nationwide, it’s not just Alabama.”
The congressman said too much money is being put into campaigns by groups that have an interest in the border not being secured.
“All of these folks that want cheap foreign labor,” he explained, “they are plowing millions and millions, tens of millions of dollars into these Senate and House races around the country and they’re winning. So the American people are losing and the net result is the kind of open borders tragedy that you see right now down south.”
Brooks did not only point fingers at his Democratic party colleagues for causing the problems at the border, but also blasted some in his own party for being beholden to the special interests groups.
“About 80-90% of the Republicans in the House and the Senate are in the pockets of those that want open borders and cheap foreign labor,” he argued. “So we’re losing when Democrats are in charge and we’re losing when Republicans are in charge, we’re just losing in different ways.”
Brooks thinks the Democrats also have no interest in securing the border because they believe the migrants will vote blue in the future.
“[T]hey see the illegal aliens ultimately getting citizenship and voting as a bloc for Democrats,” he noted, “but they may have miscalculated because a lot of the Hispanics have moral values and the Democrats, their moral values don’t align with the moral values of the people that come across our southern border. And so the Democrats are having a little bit of difficulty. Plus people coming across our southern border…their accustomed to working for a living and that’s not the Democrat mantra. They want people on welfare.”
The congressman believes that many in the GOP will not keep their campaign promises when it comes to securing the border and stopping illegal immigration.
“We’ll see how it all plays out,” he said, “but the bottom line is there are only about 10-15% of us in the House of Representatives and the United States Senate that really want border security as the American people understand it, but most everybody is going to campaign, as a Republican, is going to campaign for border security regardless of whether they’re going to keep that campaign promise.”
