Rep. Dale Strong takes on powerful new committee assignments for North Alabama

U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Monrovia) announced that he received his committee assignments for the 119th Congress earlier this week. The lawmaker, who represents Alabama’s Fifth District, has been named to three influential subcommittees and selected to serve as a vice chairman for one.

His new assignments will enable him to deliver results for constituents and the many agencies in the region at a high level, his office reports.

Strong was tapped to serve as a member and vice chairman of The Commerce, Justice, and Science Subcommittee. The Subcommittee oversees the Department of Commerce, Department of Justice — including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Science Foundation, and many other related federal agencies.

“CJS is a critical assignment for North Alabama,” said Strong. “The Subcommittee oversees funding for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and NASA, both of which have a large presence in North Alabama. Alabama is proud to host the largest concentration of FBI personnel outside the national capital region. And when it comes to space exploration, Huntsville has led the way for generations. On CJS, I will advocate for the critical work we do in North Alabama for NASA, commercial space exploration, and law enforcement across this country.

“Being a member of the Appropriations Committee alone is a great honor—but being selected as the Vice Chair of CJS and having the opportunity to serve alongside Chairman Hal Rogers, the Dean of the House, will not be taken lightly.”

Strong has been selected to serve on the Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development. The group is responsible for overseeing the Department of Transportation, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the National Transportation Safety Board, among others. The Subcommittee controls one of the largest annual allocations of discretionary funds, presenting a valuable opportunity to ensure that taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly.

“North Alabama is one of the fastest growing areas in the country,” he said. “This means we have significant infrastructure needs that affect all of us. I look forward to working on legislation that makes meaningful investments in our roads, bridges, airports, and waterways across Alabama, but particularly in our fast-growing region.”

Strong also picked up a spot on the Legislative Branch Subcommittee. The body oversees all entities within the legislative branch including the Congressional Budget Office, Government Accountability Office, Capitol Police, Architect of the Capitol, the House of Representatives, and the Library of Congress.

“This subcommittee funds congressional operations, promotes transparency, supports security, and ensures accountability. I am looking forward to ensuring that Congress has the resources necessary to rapidly implement President Trump’s agenda.”
