Rep. Barry Moore joins letter blasting Biden’s executive order on abortion

Last week, U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) joined with 56 of his Republican colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives, calling on President Joe Biden to “rescind” his recent executive order on abortion.

Biden’s order was made in response to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade.

According to the White House fact sheet, the executive order “builds on the actions his Administration has already taken to defend reproductive rights by: Safeguarding access to reproductive health care services, including abortion and contraception; Protecting the privacy of patients and their access to accurate information; Promoting the safety and security of patients, providers, and clinics; and Coordinating the implementation of Federal efforts to protect reproductive rights and access to health care.”

The 57 Republicans sent a letter to the president saying the executive order “is a direct affront to the nation’s democratic process and a blatant disrespect for the Sanctity of the Supreme Court.”

In the letter, the members of Congress argue that the president is trying to prevent the states from deciding the issue.

“Your Executive Order in response to the Supreme Court’s decision is undoubtedly a first step on circumventing Americans’ voice on the issue,” the letter reads. “While your Administration does not agree with the seventy-one percent of Americans who support limits on abortion, only seventeen percent of American voters share your radical view should be allowed at any time during pregnancy. You must not threaten the American voter’s Constitutional right to have a say on abortion, and you must not impose your radical views regarding abortion on every American.”

The letter concludes by warning Biden to not put forward any more orders on abortion.

“We urge you and expect you to rescind your recent Executive Order and to refrain from taking any other executive action that threatens Americans’ right to self-determination and the democratic process as it relates to protecting innocent unborn children,” the letter states.

Moore also released a statement along with the letter arguing that the “recent Executive Order from the Biden Administration defending the right to terminate the lives of unborn children up until the moment of birth is further proof of how extreme and beyond the mainstream Biden and Washington Democrats have moved on abortion.”

“I am proud to fight alongside Rep. Clyde and so many of my other colleagues to protect innocent life and block this attempt by the Biden administration to strip away the Constitutional right of citizens in each state to enact their own abortion laws,” he added.
