Reigning Southern Professional Hockey League MVP Carson Rose staying with Birmingham Bulls

Reigning Southern Professional Hockey League MVP Carson Rose will return for a third season with the Birmingham Bulls, the team announced in a video posted to social media on Wednesday.

The SPHL is an independent hockey minor league based in the southeastern United States, of which the Bulls are a member. Rose, a left wing, is the first Bull to win the league’s MVP award since forward Josh Harris accomplished the feat in 2019.

“He’s obviously a very electric player with an NHL shot,” say the video’s narrators. “We’re expecting big things out of him, and he’s one of the best players in this league.”

“He’s always, obviously, deadly in the offensive zone with tons of speed. He’s a huge impact on our team and we’re really excited to have him back.”

Rose, a 28-year old from Surrey, British Columbia, played college hockey at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota. He joined the Bulls before the start of the 2021-2022 season and recorded 24 goals and 17 assists over the course of his rookie campaign. Last year, Rose upped his numbers to 30 goals and 35 assists, netting a league-leading 65 points and earning the SPHL MVP award.

Despite Rose’s excellence, the Bulls weren’t able to take home last season’s league championship, falling to the Evansville Thunderbolts in their first series of the playoffs. The team will begin their 2024-25 campaign against the Huntsville Havoc at the Pelham Civic Complex on October 18.
