Ramaswamy to make stop in Birmingham ahead of GOP debate

We are in the dead heat of Presidential Primary season and some of the action is heading here to Alabama.

Republican presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy is scheduled to attend a fundraiser in Hoover on December 5th right before the highly anticipated Republican presidential debate on the campus of the University of Alabama Wednesday night.

Ramaswamy, 38, has blazed quite a trail in a primary field that includes former President Donald Trump and a dwindling lineup of traditional GOP candidates.

With a bachelor’s degree in biology from Harvard and a J.D. from Yale Law School, Ramaswamy started his career as an investment partner at the hedge fund QVT Financial before founding a large pharmaceutical company called Roivant Sciences. After his success in the private sector, Ramaswamy began to appear regularly on Fox News, building name recognition before his run for president.

In 2021, Ramaswamy published a book titled “Woke, Inc.: Inside Corporate America’s Social Justice Scam” where he makes his case that politics has no place in business and argues for a new vision of American Capitalism.

The event, hosted by the Alabama Republican Party, will be held at Ross Bridge hotel. Individual tickets are $100, VIP photo line is $1,000, and Round Table is $5,000.

Alabama GOP Chairman John Wahl said he’s extremely pleased to be hosting Vivek Ramaswamy ahead of the Republican Debate in Tuscaloosa.

Wahl said that Ramaswamy’s campaign stop “is a historic occasion for our state as we hold our first ever nationally televised presidential debate, and I am appreciative that one of our party’s rising political figures will be headlining this reception for the Alabama Republican Party. I look forward to giving the people Alabama the chance to meet Mr. Ramaswamy and showcasing our amazing state to another presidential candidate.”

Ramaswamy will be joined by three others on the debate stage in Tuscaloosa, former U.N. Ambassador and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

It was initially uncertain if former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie would qualify for the fourth Republican Debate.

“The fourth debate is another fantastic opportunity for our Republican candidates to share our winning agenda with the American people. President Reagan was the first sitting president to visit the University of Alabama nearly 40 years ago, just before cruising to a landslide victory in 1984, and I’m thrilled to return our conservative message to Tuscaloosa on Wednesday night,” Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in statement.

To qualify for the debate, candidates were required by the party to have 80,000 unique donors and poll at 6% in either two approved national polls or one national survey and two approved early state polls in order to participate in the event.

Former President Donald Trump will not be attending the fourth presidential debate in Tuscaloosa and remains the dominant frontrunner in the latest national polls.
