Protective Life gives back to construction workers bringing Birmingham stadium to life

Protective Life Corporation got into the Christmas spirit early this year, as evidenced by a recent example of the company’s altruism.

The Monday before Thanksgiving, Protective Life representatives visited the Protective Stadium construction site in downtown Birmingham to show gratitude to the construction crew working diligently to bring the state-of-the-art new venue to life.

Protective Life, also supporting local minority-owned restaurant Yo’ Mama’s, provided more than 700 construction workers with lunch.

The company, which proudly celebrates and extends its gratitude to its Magic City workforce, partnered with the BJCC and Brasfield & Gorrie to safely show their appreciation for the construction teams investing in this important project for the city and metro area.

Scott Adams, executive vice president for Corporate Responsibility, Strategy & Innovation of Protective Life, said in a statement, “Protective Life Corporation has called Birmingham home for over 100 years and has always prioritized investing in the surrounding community. Supporting local, small businesses is important to us especially during this challenging economic time.”

“We chose a locally-owned business Yo Mama’s to provide lunch for our construction crew of over 700 men and women,” he continued. “Protective views the construction team as an extension of our team in Birmingham and wanted to show appreciation for the team working on this important project for our city.”

The $174 million dollar open-air Protective Stadium will be the new home of UAB Blazers football starting next year.

The following was posted by UAB Athletics in recent days as an update on stadium construction progress:

It has been exactly 11 months since Brasfield & Gorrie was awarded the full contract as the General Contractor of Protective Stadium, and their rapid progress has kept the timeline on pace for UAB Football’s new home in 2021.

In November alone, the project has kicked into high gear with the stadium beginning to take clear shape. Below are some of the highlights throughout the past month.

  • The framing and roofing for the pressbox and suite tower is underway, while the electrical and plumbing engineering work continues.
  • In the south end zone, erection of the scoreboard framework continues, as does the installation of the foundations for the south east ramp.
  • The upper deck on the east side of the stadium is underway with slabs poured for the 300 level. The buildout and painting for the bathrooms and concessions is also happening on the east side of the stadium.
  • In the bowl, the precast seating installation continues in the southeast corner.

Fans can follow live construction progress at the Protective Stadium Construction Cam. The Protective Stadium Twitter account also provides regular updates.

This is merely the latest example of Protective Life’s commitment to the Birmingham area, as well as the company’s overall dedication to being exemplary corporate citizens.
