House District 52 in Jefferson County is set for a special election.
The seat, long held by former Rep. John Rogers, was vacated after the veteran legislator pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and also conspiracy to obstruct justice in connection with the scheme to defraud the Jefferson County Community Service Fund.
Rogers, first elected in 1982, was the longest serving representative in the chamber.
“Alabamians in House District 52 deserve fair and full representation in the legislative process, and this special election will ensure that is the case. To uphold public trust, integrity is imperative and accountability is non-negotiable,” said Gov. Kay Ivey. “I encourage everyone in this district to ensure they have a strong voice of representation in the Alabama Legislature by getting out and casting their vote during this special election.”
