President Donald Trump went all in for State Rep. Rhett Marques (R-Enterprise) on Monday, renewing his “Complete and Total Endorsement” in Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District and turning his fire on U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures (D-Mobile) eight days before voters finally decide a race that is years in the making.
“It is my Great Honor to endorse America First Patriot, Rhett Marques, who is running to represent the wonderful people of Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District,” Trump said. “Rhett is strongly supported by many of the Greatest MAGA Warriors in Alabama, including my friend, U.S. Senator Katie Britt, among others!”
Trump called Marques “a Highly Respected State Representative, Businessman, and Civic Leader” who “has dedicated his life to serving his Community.”
“As your next Congressman, he will fight tirelessly to Grow our Economy, Champion our Farmers and American Agriculture, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Unleash American Energy DOMINANCE, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Strengthen our Military/Veterans, Advance Election Integrity, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment,” Trump said.
Then he turned to Figures.
“His opponent, Shomari Figures, voted against NO TAX ON TIPS, NO TAX ON OVERTIME, and NO TAX ON SOCIAL SECURITY and, if he and the Dumocrats ever got in, all of these things would be terminated,” Trump said. “He wants massive Tax Increases, Open Borders, Men playing in Women’s Sports, and Transgender for Everybody. Shomari Figures is Reckless, Radical, and Dangerous!”
Figures voted “No” in July 2025 when the House sent the One Big Beautiful Bill to Trump’s desk on a 218-214 vote. The law carries the tax breaks on tips, overtime and seniors’ Social Security income that Trump campaigned on in 2024.
Figures called the bill “nothing more than a handout for the rich” and said “there is nothing beautiful about it.”
“Rhett Marques has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next Representative from Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District,” Trump said. “GET OUT AND VOTE FOR RHETT — HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”
Trump first endorsed Marques in June ahead of the August 11 special primary, and Marques won the nomination outright over five opponents. U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) endorsed him as well. Earlier this month, Marques took the stage ahead of Trump at the president’s Mobile rally and told the crowd the choice in the 2nd District “comes down to two things: Craziness or common sense.”
Last Thursday, Trump posted his full Alabama slate for November 3 and told “THE GREAT PEOPLE OF ALABAMA” to make a plan to vote for Marques alongside U.S. Rep. Barry Moore for U.S. Senate and U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) for Governor.
Marques has served in the Alabama House since 2018 and ran a tire shop in Enterprise for more than two decades.
Figures is seeking a second term in a district the Legislature redrew this year after the U.S. Supreme Court’s Louisiana v. Callais decision.
The new 2nd District stretches from the Wiregrass through Montgomery and west into Lowndes and Butler counties, and Trump would have carried it by 14 points in 2024. Figures won 54.6% under the old map.
Both national parties have put the seat at the top of their target lists in the fight for control of the House.
