TALLADEGA, Ala. — Wisconsin Governor and newly-announced presidential candidate Scott Walker is coming to Alabama to keynote the Alabama GOP’s “Race to 2016” Summer Luncheon in Talladega on August 22nd.

“We are very honored to have Governor Scott Walker as our guest speaker at the Alabama Republican Party Summer Luncheon on August 22,” ALGOP Chairman Terry Lathan told Yellowhammer Monday morning. “As a Republican candidate for president, Governor Walker is seen time again in the Top 5 of most presidential preference polls. He has a great story to tell as he battled forces inside his state, as well as outside. We look forward to welcoming him to Talladega as he addresses our Party members and guests.”

Walker is will be the second presidential candidate to visit the state this summer, after the legislature authorized the “SEC Primary”, which many predicted would bring more hopefuls to the state. Texas Senator Ted Cruz announced he would be visiting the Tuscaloosa County Republican party’s annual Lincoln-Reagan Dinner at The Zone in Bryant-Denny Stadium on Tuesday, August 25.

Gov. Walker has visited the Yellowhammer State once before, for the ALGOP 2013 Summer Dinner in Montgomery.

In March of this year, Yellowhammer News highlighted how one Alabamian could hold the key to a Walker nomination and Presidency.

Walker’s political organization, Our American Revival (OAR), hired of Mobile, Ala., native Wells Griffith, who will assume the role of deputy political director in the governor’s presidential campaign.

Griffith will “help identify, engage and mobilize supporters from grassroots organizations to elected officials, potential donors, state parties and allied groups,” according to OAR communications director Kirsten Kukowski.

Griffith was previously Deputy Chief of Staff for the Republican National Committee and managed RNC Chairman Reince Priebus’s successful re-election campaign earlier this year.

Griffith now joins Walker’s team just as the governor has become one of the frontrunners for the Republican presidential nomination. He won three gubernatorial races in the span of four years — his first election in 2010, followed by a recall in 2012 and his re-election to a second full term in 2014. Those hard-fought victories in a purple state have made him a hero to many conservatives around the nation, as well as a favorite among wealthy donors who believe he’s a proven winner. That rare combination of grassroots backing and big-donor support promises to make him particularly formidable in a national race.

Tickets for the 2015 ALGOP Summer Luncheon are available on the Party’s website, and the public is welcome to attend.
