After a long weekend for the Donald Trump campaign, many prominent Alabama politicians have come out and un-endorsed the Republican Presidential Nominee for president.
The Trump campaign came under siege after The Washington Post released a video last Friday from 2005 containing audio of him making vulgar comments about his treatment of women. Since the tape’s release, Trump has issued a public apology, but has firmly declared he has no intention of dropping out.
At this point, many Republicans across the country feel that the best option to beat Hillary Clinton is for Trump to step aside in favor of his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R).
The following is a running list of Alabama Republicans who have advocated for such a position. This list will be updated as the situation continues to develop.
Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL2)
In a Saturday morning tweet, the congresswoman stated that in light of Trump’s statements she will not vote for him.

She was the first Republican member of Alabama’ congressional delegation to come out against the nominee. She has also called for Trump to be replaced on the GOP ticket by Gov. Pence.
“Hillary Clinton must not be president, but with Trump leading the ticket, she will be,” Roby said in a statement.
Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-AL2)
Byrne was the next Alabama representative to call for Trump to step aside, and he has also suggested that Pence be given the nod.
“It is now clear Donald Trump is not fit to be President of the United States and cannot defeat Hillary Clinton. I believe he should step aside and allow Governor Pence to lead the Republican ticket.”
Gov. Robert Bentley (R-AL)
Gov. Bentley, who himself is at the center of an alleged cheating scandal that brought forth articles of impeachment, also criticized Trump for his treatment of women.
“Donald Trump’s comments regarding women were disgraceful and appalling. There are absolutely no circumstances under which it would ever be appropriate to speak of women in such a way,” he said in a statement.
“I certainly won’t vote for Hillary Clinton, but I cannot and will not vote for Donald Trump.”
Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (R)
In a strongly worded Facebook post, the Stanford University provost and Alabama native vehemently declared that Donald Trump is not fit to be President of the United States.
