Poarch Creek Indians receive 2025 Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award

The Poarch Creek Indians have received the 2025 Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award from the Scouting America – Mobile Area Council. The award was presented on August 7 at the headquarters of Austal USA in Mobile, Alabama.

The national award recognizes individuals and organizations that have provided outstanding service in creating and implementing opportunities for youth from all backgrounds, especially those from rural or low-income urban communities. This year, the Poarch Creek Indians were recognized for their consistent community involvement, leadership, and support, which align with the mission and values of both the Boy Scouts of America and the legacy of civil rights leader Whitney M. Young Jr.

Poarch Creek Indians Tribal Council Member Justin Stabler expressed gratitude for the recognition.

“We are honored to receive the Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award,” Stabler said. “This recognition is a reflection of the incredible young people we have had the privilege to work with and our community leaders who continue to inspire change. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to succeed and are proud to be part of a movement and organization that works every day to make that a reality.”

“The Poarch Creek Indians join a distinguished group of honorees whose impact continues to shape a brighter, more inclusive future for young people across the nation,” said William Bryant, Scout Executive/CEO Mobile Area Council, Scouting America. “Their commitment to empowering youth and expanding access to meaningful programs exemplifies the very best of what this award represents.”

The Poarch Creek Indians are the only federally recognized tribe in Alabama. The Tribe operates in multiple industries, including hospitality and aerospace.
