Palmer: Joe Biden, Kamala Harris ‘think that the average American is stupid’

Congressman Gary Palmer (AL-06) is pushing back against what he sees as brazen lies coming from the Democratic ticket of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

Palmer interviewed on Talk 99.5’s “Matt and Aunie Show” on Thursday morning and reacted to the vice presidential debate the previous night between Harris and Vice President Mike Pence.

The central Alabama congressman praised Pence’s debate performance, saying the vice president did well outlining what a second Trump-Pence term would accomplish. Palmer then turned his attention to the Democratic ticket.

“What really bothers me about this is that they think that the average American is stupid,” he advised of Harris and Biden. “They think that they can get up there and lie about the agenda and that the average American’s going to buy everything they’re selling. And that includes suburban people. They think that we will, that people will go blindly into the night with them on the lies they’re telling us.”

Palmer pointed to Harris’ claims about healthcare last night as one of the top recent examples.

“When she got up and started talking about healthcare, saying we didn’t have a plan to cover preexisting conditions, she knows absolutely, positively that we do. Because she voted against our healthcare bill that included the amendment that I wrote that covered preexisting conditions for everybody,” he explained. “That’s the one thing that I wish [Pence] had been able to do, to point out that she voted against covering preexisting conditions.”

Palmer, as chairman of the Republican Policy Committee, is the fifth-highest ranking GOP member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

“The other thing is, if they have their way with their healthcare plan, somewhere between 165 and 180 million Americans who have their health insurance through their employer will lose their health insurance. They are going to pursue Bernie Sanders’ plan,” Palmer added. “[Harris] is more leftwing than Bernie Sanders. And Biden put her on the ticket …”

Co-host Andrea Lindenberg then asked Palmer what his reaction is when he sees Democrats — such as Biden, Harris and U.S. Senator Doug Jones (D-AL) — publicly claim Republicans are actively working to take health insurance away from people.

“What fool would believe that? What — I mean you would have to be just absolutely out of your mind to think that. Do they not realize we all have family? That if we took away all Americans’ healthcare that would impact our family — your mom and dad and everybody else that we know? That’s insane,” Palmer replied.

“We have a plan that will — like I said — cover everybody with a preexisting condition,” he continued. “It will make healthcare more affordable. The amendment that I wrote, Milliman — one of the top actuarial firms in the country — did an analysis and came back and said that it would lower premiums for every age group. All the way up until 65, when people qualify for Medicare. … We’re going to get rid of the surprise billing… We’re going to cover that. We’re going to make sure that doesn’t happen. And we’re going to restore the decision making between the patient and the doctor and get the bureaucrats out of the way. We have a great plan that will make healthcare affordable and I think will add millions of people to the rolls of people who have health insurance.”
