Palmer capitalizes on National Signing Day with radio ad targeting college football fans

Gary Palmer today became the first Sixth Congressional District candidate to air a radio spot this election cycle.

The first Wednesday in February is always one of the most exciting days of the year for college football fanatics because it’s National Signing Day, the first day a high school senior can sign a letter of intent to play for the college of his choice.

The Palmer campaign tried to make the most of that excitement by putting an ad up on Birmingham-area sports talk radio stations.

Palmer congratulated Auburn, who landed the eighth best recruiting class according to Rivals.com, and Alabama, number one for the fourth straight year, for their continued success. He then quickly transitioned into comparing the importance of fielding the top talent on a football team to the necessity of sending the right person to Washington.

The ad can be hear above, and the transcript is below. Do you think it’s an effective spot?

Hi, I’m Gary Palmer. Congratulations to Auburn and Alabama for their outstanding recruiting classes. Football fans know the success of their teams depends on the quality of their players. The same is true for Congress. To get spending under control, reduce our debt, and get the economy growing again, we need to send the right people to Washington.
