Open Woods Weeks return to the Forever Wild Sipsey River Complex this summer, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announced.
The public can drive into the property along the main gravel road from the Jack’s Drive parking area to the south gate. Because of seasonal wet conditions and public hunting activities, the gates are closed to vehicles at other times during the year.
The Open Woods Weeks are:
- June 23-July 2
- July 21-30
- Aug. 18-27
- Sept. 15-24
On those dates, the main gate opens at 4 p.m. Friday and closes the following week on Sunday at 4 p.m.
Visitors to the 7,155-acre recreation area in Tuscaloosa County can canoe, bird, fish, hike, horseback ride, bike, picnic and photograph wildlife.
In the event the Sipsey River is out of its banks and flooding the roads, the dates will be rescheduled. For information and schedule updates, click here.
