Oak Mountain State Park is the largest state park in Alabama and offers over 11,000 acres. Oak Mountain is home to “more than 100 miles of trails, an 18-hole golf course and driving range, horseback riding facilities, fishing lakes, boat rentals, picnic and beach areas and majestic Peavine Falls.”
The park is also unique in that it is home to The Alabama Wildlife Center which “offers rehabilitation services to injured native birds to return them to the wild.” Interested visitors can see the birds at the Tree Top Nature Trail, a boardwalk that makes its way through a heavily wooded valley.

The entrance can be found by the Lunker Lake boat launch. This new trail circles the entirety of Lunker Lake. It welcomes everyone from walkers to cyclists and offers amazing views of the lake. Long-time lovers of the existing trails are expressing their excitement about the opening of a trail that shows love to one of Oak Mountain’s biggest attractions.
