Governor Kay Ivey is asking Alabamians to hold their pets “extra close” after the recent passing of her beloved dog, Missy. The blended collie mix, known to be inseparable from the Governor, was adopted by Ivey in January 2019 from the Montgomery Humane Shelter. Missy was around ten years old.

In a statement released Friday, Ivey paid tribute to her steadfast companion.

“Missy was a great friend,” she said. “After the best days and the hardest ones, it was always so good to return to the Governor’s Mansion and be greeted by Missy. She really made it feel like home, and I will miss her dearly. Missy lived a great life. There is nothing quite like the love from our pets.”

Ivey offered her thanks to the employees at Montgomery Veterinary Associates who gave Missy care and comfort in her final days.
