North Alabama man faces life in prison for trafficking 13 ounces of fentanyl

A Huntsville man could face life in prison after a drug bust yielded a massive quantity of illegal narcotics, including 13.5 ounces of fentanyl.

Lorenzo Grays, 36, was taken into custody by the North Alabama Drug Task Force last Friday at 1:00 a.m. after a search warrant was executed in the area of Jonathan Drive.

Grays was arrested for trafficking fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, analogs, and marijuana. He is currently being held at the Madison County Jail on a $4 million bond.

Under Alabama’s new law increasing minimum penalties for trafficking fentanyl, 8 grams or more results in a mandatory life sentence. Grays’ possession of 13.5 ounces of the deadly drug — an amount that is over forty-eight times that threshold — makes him an unequivocal candidate.

The drugs found and seized during the operation included:

  • 13.75 ounces of fentanyl
  • 4 ounces of crack cocaine
  • 6.5 ounces of methamphetamine ice

  • 46 grams of mushrooms
  • 3.2 pounds of marijuana
  • 2.8 pounds of spice (analog)
  • 1.8 grams of ecstasy

A firearm was also seized int he operation.

According to the Huntsville Police Department, the arrest comes after a weekslong investigation into the suspected drug trafficking operations. This is an ongoing investigation; additional arrests and charges are possible.
