North Alabama election roundup: Dollar has one-vote lead; Honea returns to head Albertville; Evans wins in Hartselle; runoffs in Boaz, Moulton

The old adage “every vote counts” is holding true in Guntersville.

Mayor Leigh Dollar is holding a one vote lead (1,062-1,061) over Jeff McLaughlin in unofficial returns from the Lake City.

The provisional ballots have not yet been counted.

Elsewhere, Albertville Mayor Tracy Honea retained his seat while Hartselle Mayor Randy Garrison was defeated by Missy Evans.

Meanwhile, there will be a runoff in Boaz but not involving Mayor David Dyar.

According to the unofficial tally, Honea had 1,767 votes for 93.29% of the total; challenger Justin Ennis had 127 votes (6.71%).

In Hartselle, Evans edged Garrison 1,758 votes (52.03%) to 1,503 (44.48%). David Lewis Witt received 118 votes (3.49%).

Tim Walker (753 votes, 42.59%) and Jana Pair (585 votes, 33.09%) will go to the Sept. 23 runoff in Boaz. Dyar had 430 votes for 24.32%.

In other mayoral races (returns are unofficial):

  • Fort Payne – Mayor Brian Baine retains his seat over Pete Davis. Baine received 1,600 votes (61.9%) to 985 (38.1%) for Davis.
  • Moulton – Ryan Jolly (283 votes, 33.33%) will face Mayor Roger Weatherwax (233, 27.44%) in a runoff Sept. 23. Other unofficial counts were Robert “Bobby” Burch (160, 18.85%), Charles “Kenny” Rogers (83, 9.78%), Alicia Roper (83, 9.78%) and Brian Keith Latseon (7, 0.82%).
  • Muscle Shoals – Billy Hudson defeated Mayor Mike Lockhart by 104 votes. Hudson picked up 52% of the tally to Lockhart’s 48%.
  • Russellville – Mayor David Reed Grissom held off a challenge from Guadalupe Martinez. Grissom had 810 votes (53.64%) to Martinez’s 700 votes (46.36%).
  • Triana – Mayor Mary Caudle retains her position with 364 votes (69.5%) over Greg Hazelwood’s 160 votes (30.5%).
