The Jacksonville State Gamecocks are going to be making a major addition to their coaching staff.
After making headlines earlier this week for filing an appeal letter with the NCAA to be able to hire former Alabama Crimson Tide defensive coordinator and Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt to their staff as an analyst, things have been approved.
Pruitt is under a six-year show cause order from the NCAA in the wake of recruiting violations which led to the end of his time in Knoxville, which essentially prevents any school from hiring him without approval.
Earlier this month, Pruitt filed in court and was seeking a preliminary injunction from an Alabama judge, which would allow him to take the job that had been offered to him at Jacksonville State.
Pruitt’s ongoing lawsuit was also amended to include a letter from JSU president Don Killingsworth and athletics director Greg Seitz requesting that the school be granted permission to add Pruitt to their staff without the penalties that come along with the show cause.
“We applaud the intentional effort that JSU put into its proposed plan,” the NCAA wrote in its decision to grant Pruitt his new role.
“The proposal, collaborative discussion at the hearing and outcome demonstrate the show-cause process working as intended. Additionally, the COI appreciates JSU’s stated commitment to compliance and its transparent acknowledgement that potential future violations carry risk.”
For now, Pruitt will be restricted and likely not have any involvement in recruiting as well as not being able to attend games in person according to a story from CBS Sports.
JSU also is being required to “implement a robust monitoring program with shared responsibilities involving the compliance staff, head football coach, director of athletics and university president.”
The program will have to report with the NCAA as to the activities and responsibilities of Pruitt. Clearly, there are a ton of restrictions here, but the Gamecocks are getting a proven elite defensive mind into the building, and Pruitt is paving his way back to major college football.
