Nate Oats reveals Nick Saban spoke to team before Texas A&M game

Former Alabama football head coach Nick Saban was in the house for the huge basketball win on Saturday afternoon as the Tide took down Texas A&M by a score of 100-75.

We found out after the game from Nate Oats himself that Saban did more than just attend the game — he rallied the players beforehand.

“To me he’s maybe the best team coach of any team sport in modern college sports history, and he’s right here,” Oats stated in his post-game presser.

“I talked to him shortly after he retired and he told me when he’s gonna come back to town so I asked him if he wouldn’t mind speaking to the team, and it worked out with us being off during this week.”

“I thought it would be good for our guys to hear from a respected coach like him on what it takes to win…He’s great. He said ‘I don’t know much about basketball but here’s what you can apply from football’. I just thought he was really good, obviously he’s won a ton of games. I tried to learn as much as I can from him, I was fortunate to spend five football seasons with him here.”

Oats went on to reveal that he will continue to lean on Saban for advice in the future.

“Shoot, if he’s around here I’m gonna keep picking his brain and see if he can keep talking to our team as the years go on.”
