Moore pushes GOP border, immigration plan

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) joined his fellow Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee this week in advancing a plan they believe would help secure the border.

The Border Security and Enforcement Act, H.R. 2640, pass the Judiciary Committee Wednesday by a vote of 23 to 15.

Thursday on WVNN’s “The Yaffee Program,” Moore touted the plan while also criticizing Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for not securing the southern border.

“Mayorkas is incredible at talking in circles,” Moore said, “and he will straight up tell you the border is secure, and we all know, and the numbers are clear, the data is clear, the border is not secure. And with Title 42 going away in a few weeks, there’s 40,000 people mobilized ready to pour across the southern border in addition to the 200,000 or so a month we’re seeing.”

The congressman explained how one provision in the GOP border bill would act as a disincentive for people to even attempt to come through the southern border.

“One of the most powerful tools we’ve got is that when you apply for asylum we either detain you or send you back to Mexico,” he said. “We’re giving them cellphones, we’re giving them government subsidies funded by the American taxpayer, and we’re turning them loose into our country never to see them again. The fact that we’re either going to detain them or send them back, that sends a message to the cartel and folks south of the border don’t come here, it’s no longer a free pass.”

He also pointed a part of the legislation that would deter people sending unaccompanied minors to the U.S.

“If you had a child wander up to your house tonight and knock on your door, you would try to find their parents, that’s the common sense approach, you get them to their house, that’s where they’re going to be safe. Instead we’re shipping them to Google addresses in America and we’re not even doing background checks on the people we’re sending these children to,” he said. “The U.S. government is tax funded child trafficking, and we’re paying for it courtesy of the American taxpayer. One of the provision is send those children back to their parents, back to their homeland, and that is the safest place for them to be.”

Moore emphasized his current frustration with the Biden administration on this issue.

“Mayorkas himself, I understand he’s just an agent of Biden’s government, but at the same time we think it’s intentional what he’s doing to the U.S. southern border,” he said, “and there’s just no way to get a handle on it.”
