Montgomery school board announces superintendent finalists

The Montgomery County School Board has announced the four finalists for its superintendent position.

Current interim-superintendent since January, Ann Roy Moore, is in the running against current and former superintendents of other city systems: Larry DiChiara, Robert Griffin and Angela Mangum.

The state took over Montgomery’s schools in February 2017 because of the system’s low ranking performance and chronic absenteeism.

The state’s department of education announced multiple cost cutting measures in February as part of the intervention. The state will slash central office positions and travel costs for school board members. It will also close four schools next year and sell unused properties.

Montgomery’s schools will also receive $1.5 million that was accidentally given to Pike Road Schools.

The public can ask the Montgomery superintendent finalists questions during interviews Thursday.
