Another arrest has been made after a high profile Montgomery businessman was robbed and beaten in early March.
Jim Massey, III was the victim, as well his local business, Jim Massey’s Cleaners. Attackers reportedly stole $6,000 to $8,000 from the safe before fleeing in a vehicle belonging to the business. One arrest was made in the weeks following.
At the time, a 58-year-old Zedekiah Sykes was arrested on charges of armed robbery, carjacking, and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a federal crime of violence.
This week, 57-year-old Spencer Thomas of Prattville was also arrested and charged with armed robbery and carjacking after law enforcement located him in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The arrests follow a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Montgomery Police Department, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), and the Metro Area Crime Suppression (MACS) Unit, with assistance from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
Sykes’ trial is already set for August 11, 2025 while Thomas is scheduled to be arraigned in Montgomery on June 17, 2025.
If convicted on all charges, Thomas and Sykes each face up to 25 years in federal prison.
