With a countdown and a tarp drop revealing the name for the first time, Mobile leaders on Tuesday publicly unveiled “Regions Arena” as the title sponsor for the city’s new downtown venue, offering a glimpse into a project officials say will bring concerts, sporting events — including professional hockey — and new energy to the Gulf Coast.
The announcement, made on-site in front of the arena under construction, marked a milestone moment for what city officials have described as one of the most transformative developments in Mobile’s history.
According to a City of Mobile press release, Regions Bank has secured naming rights for the 10,000-seat facility, which is scheduled to open in early 2027.
The project is being developed in partnership with Oak View Group (OVG), which will manage the venue and also operates the Mobile Convention Center and Saenger Theatre. The company facilitated the multi-year naming rights agreement on behalf of the city.
As part of the broader deal, Regions will serve as the official banking partner not only for the new arena, but also for the convention center and Saenger Theatre, as well as Mobile’s future professional hockey team, which is expected to begin play during the 2027–28 season.
City officials have positioned the arena as more than just an event venue, emphasizing its role as a long-term gathering place and economic driver for the region. The facility is expected to host concerts, family shows, and sporting events while also supporting local businesses and creating jobs.
During the announcement, Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis said the partnership reflects both the city’s future direction and the strength of a long-standing local institution.
“Regions Arena will be a place where Mobilians will gather for generations to come and where visitors can experience the best of our city,” Cheriogotis said.
Regions representatives echoed that sentiment during the event, highlighting the bank’s longstanding ties to the area and its continued investment in the community.
Oak View Group leadership said the arena is expected to bring new events and momentum to Mobile, positioning the city as a growing destination for live entertainment across the Southeast.
Once completed, the venue is designed to accommodate major touring acts while also incorporating elements of Mobile’s culture, including its longstanding Mardi Gras traditions.
The arena is expected to serve as a year-round destination, bringing together residents and visitors while expanding access to entertainment and supporting continued growth along the Gulf Coast.
