Mo Brooks: Senate GOP should block Biden’s ‘radical left wing activist’ SCOTUS nominee

Last week, President Joe Biden announced his nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to fill the upcoming U.S. Supreme Court vacancy left by retiring Justice Stephen Breyer.

The 51-year-old nominee sits on the U.S. District Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. Jackson last year was confirmed to her current judgeship with the support of three Senate Republicans.

According to U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville), candidate for Alabama’s open U.S. Senate seat, Republicans should use every tool at their disposal to block Jackson’s nomination to the high court.

In a statement announcing his opposition to Jackson’s nomination, Brooks called the nominee a “radical left wing activist.”

“President Biden, in an attempt to distract the American people from all of his ongoing blunders and scandals, seeks to nominate a radical left wing activist to the Supreme Court,” advised Brooks. “It is a bedrock principle of the American Republic that justices should not substitute their policy beliefs for the policy beliefs of America’s properly elected Congresses and presidents. Activist justices betray the Constitution and America.”

Some conservative legal observers have pointed to multiple rulings of Jackson’s being overturned by higher courts.

Brooks insisted that upper chamber Republicans should block Biden’s nomination until the president appoints a “constitutional jurist” to the court.

“Ketanji Brown Jackson has an established record of dismissing established law and usurping the separation of powers defined in the Constitution,” added the congressman. “Republicans must use every tool available to fight and stop this nomination. I call on my Republican colleagues in the Senate to block this nomination by holding up any vote until a constitutional jurist is nominated. America is at a crossroads. I have never before feared for the future of our country like I do today. The people of Alabama need to know that their United States Senator will not play politics or use judgeships as insider political favors. They also need to know that their elected officials will FIGHT.”

Should his senatorial candidacy prove successful, Brooks vowed to support judicial nominees in the mold of those appointed to the Supreme Court by former President Donald Trump.

Brooks concluded, “As your Senator, I pledge that I will only nominate and vote for great judges like Justice Gorsuch, Justice Kavanaugh, and Justice Amy Coney Barrett. I will also fight to hold up votes on any nominees that will do further damage to America. Nobody will fight liberal activist judges like I will. I’ll be the left’s worst nightmare.”
