Mo Brooks criticizes Alabama Democrats for ‘playing the race card’

In a Monday appearance on “The Dale Jackson Show,” Congressman Mo Brooks (AL-5) criticized Alabama Democrats for “once again playing the race card.”

Brooks was specifically referring to racially charged fliers that have been called “incendiary garbage,” “blatant lies” and “hurtful divisiveness” by Alabama Republican Party Chairman Terry Lathan.

After describing the above flier, Brooks said, “This idea that the Democrats have every single election of trying to scare African Americans into voting Democrat based on racial division – that’s just horrendous, it’s wrong and they oughta stop it.”

“[I]t’s what they do on a regular basis,” Brooks added, before describing recent instances in Georgia and North Carolina where Democrats had pulled similar stunts. “It’s what they do every single election cycle, where they stoke the fears of racial division in order to encourage turnout and to scare African American voters into voting Democrat. It’s wrong, it’s repugnant.”

The flier in question was sponsored by the Alabama New South Coalition’s political arm, which has endorsed Democratic gubernatorial nominee Walt Maddox. The day after Yellowhammer News first reported on the controversial flier last month, Maddox featured the man leading the “Vote or Die” movement in Alabama, outgoing state Sen. Hank Sanders (D-Selma), at his campaign press conference in the Black Belt, along with Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook).
