U.S. Representative Mo Brooks’ (R-Huntsville) longtime chief of staff Mark Pettitt will retire from his position by June 5, according to a release from Brooks’ office on Monday.
Pettitt has served as the head of Brooks’ staff since 2011 when the congressman first entered the House. The two men have known each other since they attended Grissom High School in Huntsville together.
Information on what Pettitt would do next was not available, beyond a comment that he would be “leaving Capitol Hill.” Pettitt was an engineer in the private sector for many years before taking up public service.
“I cannot thank Mark enough for the value he provided me and the Tennessee Valley. I wish Mark joy and contentment as he embarks on this next phase of life. I know how much he is looking forward to enjoying well-deserved time with his wife, Diane, five children, and 12 grandchildren!” said Brooks in a release.
“I will miss his sound and candid guidance,” the congressman commented about his friend.
“I am very thankful and honored my dear friend trusted me to help him serve our country at such a critical time in American history. I am especially proud of the record Congressman Brooks has built for correctly considering the cascading effects of fiscal, trade, and immigration policies on working American families,” said Pettitt.
“I sincerely thank all the great staff members who helped support these efforts over the years,” Pettitt added.
