Alabama lawmakers introduced a joint resolution that was signed by Governor Kay Ivey urging the Trump administration to solidify Huntsville’s Redstone Arsenal as the permanent home of the United States Space Command.
Sponsored by a wide coalition of senators, including State Sen. Steve Livingston (R-Scottsboro) and State Sen. Jabo Waggoner (R-Vestavia), the resolution reaffirms Redstone Arsenal’s longstanding designation as the preferred site and calls on national leaders to act without further delay.
“In 2021, the United States Air Force announced Redstone Arsenal as the preferred location for the Space Command Headquarters,” the resolution states.
“In determining where to permanently locate the United States Space Command Headquarters, Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, consistently ranked as the top location throughout the selection process and compared more favorably across four key factors and 21 criteria than any other finalist location.”
That process, the resolution notes, ranked Huntsville ahead of all other candidate sites on workforce, infrastructure, educational quality, and cost. Investigations by both the Department of Defense Inspector General and the Government Accountability Office have since affirmed the integrity of that selection.
“It’s time to give U.S. Space Command its rightful home in Huntsville and prove what we’ve said all along: Redstone Arsenal is the best place to strengthen America’s position in space and protect our national security,” said Livingston. “Alabama is ready to lead, and Huntsville is mission ready.”

Waggoner echoed those sentiments, saying, “The facts speak for themselves — Redstone Arsenal has the talent, the track record, and the resources to get the job done. Alabama is ready to support this mission and strengthen America’s national security for generations to come.”
Governor Kay Ivey said the message is one that brings all Alabamians together.

SJR63 concludes by encouraging President Trump, the Secretary of Defense, and the Secretary of the Air Force to “immediately proceed” with establishing the headquarters in Huntsville — a move supporters say would not only bolster national security but also honor the integrity of the original selection process.
