#MeToo, Sue Bell Cobb?

If the Roy Moore for Senate campaign had a campaign aide who was a convicted rapist, as Sue Bell Cobb’s does(?), it would be on the front page of AL.com for 5 days. If Roy Moore’s campaign manager defended such a hiring, as Sue Bell Cobb’s did, the social media #MeToo outrage would explode and every Republican candidate would be asked to disavow. If Roy Moore himself defended the rapist, as Sue Bell Cobb did, Rachel Maddow would broadcast from the Flora-Bama and a Reckon panel would tell America that this story is just another sad tale about how backward Alabama is.

What did the Alabama media do at first? A redemption story, but more importantly, they sold it as a good thing that Cobb knew the rapist was a rapist

“The campaign learned of Littlejohn’s past from a background check prior to bringing him on. According to campaign chair Landon Nichols, Cobb did not know of Littlejohn’s conviction and incarceration until he informed her a few weeks ago.”

Why this matters: Disingenuous inconsistency matters. The national and statewide media would declare a Republican unfit for office. The would demand she drop out of the race. Editorials would be filed at every newspaper in the state the first day this story broke demanding the Republican candidate resign.

But this was a Democrat’s campaign that hired a convicted rapist, after Sen. Doug Jones’ campaign hired the same rapist, this will be treated as any other campaign story. Damn Democrats got it good.

The details:

— None of Roy Moore’s accusers had any of their decade’s old claims proven, yet the media implored Alabama voters to reject him based on the seriousness of the allegation.

— This story is not about a sexual harassment or assault claim, but a forcible rape.

— This is not about an old allegation pushing someone out of their job, Littlejohn served a 30-year sentence for rape by forcible compulsion, sodomy I and robbery I.

— Members of Congress, members of the media, CEOs, and celebrities have lost jobs for far less than this.
