Members of Congress making a bet over Rose Bowl outcome

A friendly wager has been placed on the results of Monday’s upcoming Rose Bowl matchup between fellow members of Congress from both Alabama and Michigan

U.S. Reps. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville), Terri Sewell (D-Birmingham), Debbie Dingell (D-MI), and Lisa McClain (R-MI) agreed on a lunch bet that involves cuisine from the states of each.

If Michigan beats Alabama — Alabama members will provide the Michigan members with a lunch of Dreamland Barbecue, courtesy, of course, of Aderholt and Sewell.

If Alabama defeats Michigan, then Reps. Aderholt and Sewell will enjoy a lunch of Detroit style pizza provided by Reps. Dingell and McClain.

“I don’t believe I’ve ever had Detroit-style pizza,” said Rep. Robert Aderholt. “But I’m sure it will taste great to Congresswoman Sewell and me as our two staffs have a pizza lunch courtesy of our Michigan colleagues when Alabama wins the Rose Bowl. Great pizza and the sweet smell of Pasadena Roses, a winning combination if there ever was one. Roll Tide!”

“There will be no better way to kick off the new year than an Alabama win over Michigan at the Rose Bowl!” said Rep. Terri Sewell. “And there will be no better way to celebrate our nation’s greatest college football team than with some Detroit-style pizza. I know the Wolverines have had an impressive season, but good luck stopping Alabama. The Tide is going to Roll in Pasadena!”

A similar wager was made on the SEC Championship in which U.S. Reps. Nikema Williams (D-GA) and Buddy Carter (R-GA) had to provide Alabama Reps. with Chick Fil A after the Crimson Tide’s victory over the Georgia Bulldogs.

No. 1 Michigan will take on No. 4 Alabama on Monday, January 1st at 4pm CST in the Rose Bowl from Pasadena, California.
