The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, better known as March Madness, will make its return to the Magic City in 2028 when Legacy Arena in the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex hosts first and second round games.

“The Southeastern Conference will be proud to host the 2028 NCAA Men’s Basketball First and Second Rounds and bring the best in men’s basketball to the City of Birmingham,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. “We look forward to collaborating with the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex and Knight Eady to provide student-athletes and fans with a memorable championship experience.”

The first and second round games will be played on March 17 and 19, 2028.
Birmingham last held March Madness action in Birmingham two years ago when both the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn Tigers were selected to play in what became one of the biggest basketball weekends in the history of the state.
The No. 1 seeded Crimson Tide won both of their games at Legacy Arena against No. 16 seeded Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and No. 8 seeded Maryland while the No. 9 seeded Tigers defeated No. 8 seeded Iowa and lost to No. 1 seed Houston.
