It appears all but certain that former U.S. Rep Jerry Carl of Mobile will be running for his old seat, Alabama’s 1st Congressional District, in 2026.

AL-01 consists of nine counties in South Alabama, including Baldwin and Mobile.

Carl filed his Statement of Candidacy on Thursday, formally marking his foray back into politics since losing the seat to former elected GOP colleague U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) in the 2024 Republican primary. Now, with Moore’s forthcoming campaign for U.S. Senate soon to be announced, Carl is shaping up his bid to take the seat back.

On Monday morning, Carl posted on social media about a ‘major announcement’ set for 10 a.m., August 18th at Foley City Hall.

Carl is holding off on an official campaign announcement until Moore launches his run for U.S. Senate, which is expected this week.

A former Mobile County Commissioner, Carl was first elected to the 1st District in 2020 and reelected in 2022.
