BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — While Alabama’s unemployment rate has dropped significantly since the depths of the Great Recession, thousands of Alabamians are still looking for the perfect job to jumpstart their career and support their families.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, certain jobs are in higher demand than others. Using data from Help Wanted Online, which compiles listings from job postings across the state, the Department of Labor scoured the 49,491 online postings so far this month to see which industries are hiring right now.
Here are the top ten, with their average salaries:
- Heavy and Tractor- Trailer Truck Driver ($20.05/hr)
- Registered Nurse ($27.71)
- Retail Salespersons ($12.50)
- First-Line Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers ($19.79)
- Customer Service Representatives ($14.68)
- First-Line Supervisors of Office and Admin. Support ($24.58)
- Maintenance and Repair Workers, General ($18.15)
- First-Line Supervisors of Production and Operating Workers ($27.38)
- Computer User Support Specialists ($22.40)
- Industrial Engineers ($41.19)
“Six of this month’s top 10 advertised careers have hourly salaries of more than $20 an hour,” said Commissioner of the Alabama Department of Labor Fitzgerald Washington. “This shows that there are good jobs out there, and employers are hiring in Alabama. We expect seasonal hiring to pick up over the next few weeks, creating even more opportunity for Alabamians.”
