Every year, tourists travel to the Yellowhammer State to get a look at the Cahaba lilies in Bibb County along the Cahaba River.
Squarely now in springtime, the flowers are beginning to bloom and were documented by Patrick Stewart Photography. Take a look at some of the images that were captured of one of the most beautiful spots in all of Alabama:
A new project has just been complete as a part of the Cahaba National Wildlife Refuge to make the area more open and the lilies easier for tourists to get a look at.
The $8.5 million project has been in the works for 15 years by Cahaba Riverkeeper David Butler.
“What you see now is not what it will look like in the future. So, this will all be reforested, just takes time,” Butler told WVTM News several weeks ago. “We’ve got the big part done and now will come the replanting and really, you know, returning this to the way it was before the mining activity.”
