Barry McKnight returned from covering Troy baseball in the Sun Belt tournament, where the Trojans faced Old Dominion in an elimination game.
The show highlighted the dramatic changes to the 12-team College Football Playoff format — dubbed the “SMU and Boise State rule” — which essentially favors power programs for top seeds. “We don’t want you guys doing what you did last year,” John Longshore quipped, explaining how mid-majors are now unlikely to receive favorable placement. They also discussed the stalled College Sports Commission idea and the increasing likelihood of a “college football czar,” possibly modeled after Nick Saban’s preference for centralized authority.

The hosts then jumped into John’s annual “Where I Was Right, Where I Was Wrong” prediction recap. He admitted being off on Auburn’s 2023 record, saying, “I am dead wrong on that one. There’s no wiggle room here.” The duo also covered Alabama and Auburn football, SEC tournament baseball in Hoover, NBA and NHL playoffs, and the return of Braves stars Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuña. In the latter half, they teased their upcoming predictions for the next 12 months while continuing to promote Memorial Day sales at Stivers and local jewelers like Marguerite.
