Lifesaver 5 crash in Evergreen under federal investigation

A Lifesaver 5 helicopter crash in Evergreen prompted an emergency response Sunday afternoon and triggered federal and state aviation investigations.

Evergreen Fire Rescue responded to the crash at approximately 3:12 p.m. at a residence on South Main Street, according to local officials. The helicopter, identified as Lifesaver 5, was returning from a medical transport when the crash occurred.

Evergreen Police confirmed there were no fatalities in the Lifesaver 5 helicopter crash. Multiple emergency agencies responded to the scene, and perimeter security remains in place while investigators examine the crash site.

According to Conecuh County Emergency Management, three crew members were aboard the helicopter at the time of the crash. One crew member was treated and released from Evergreen Medical Center, while two others were transported to a hospital outside the area. Officials reported that all crew members are currently in stable condition.

Emergency officials also confirmed that the residence adjacent to the crash site sustained minor interior and exterior damage. The homeowner was transported for medical evaluation and later transferred to another facility due to a medical incident during the event. The homeowner is reported to be in stable condition.

Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are currently on site conducting independent investigations. The Alabama State Bureau of Investigation has completed aerial mapping of the crash location as part of the investigative process.

Officials said fuel spillage from the helicopter was minimal. The crash site will remain closed until investigators complete their work and cleanup operations can begin.

The Lifesaver 5 helicopter crash remains under investigation, and no preliminary cause has been released.
