Kiffin says Saban told him to have his players avoid ‘rat poison’

With former Alabama head coach Nick Saban stepping into an analyst role on College Gameday, he is making phone calls to coaches from teams he will have to talk about on television to prepare.

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said in a USA Today story that Saban gave him a call to find out more about the Rebels and offer some advice to his former offensive coordinator and close friend.

“He said, ‘Remind those players about rat poison,'” Kiffin said on what the greatest to ever do it told him. “‘Remind them that those people that are writing that stuff on the internet about how great they are, … it’s probably some big fat guy in his underwear who doesn’t know (crap) about football.'”

Kiffin has possibly the best roster he has had for the upcoming season led by quarterback Jaxson Dart.

The Rebels are expected to not just compete in the SEC, but push for a spot in the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff.

With legitimate expectations surrounding the Ole Miss program for the first time in a very long time, Kiffin will need to give his players a reminder courtesy of a man with seven national titles to his name that recognition and status must be earned on the field and not in a preview magazine.
