Kentucky man arrested in connection with Fort Payne bank robbery

The Fort Payne Police Department and the FBI are investigating a robbery that occurred at the PNC Bank in downtown Fort Payne on Tuesday morning, September 9. According to Fort Payne Police, the incident took place around 9:20 a.m. at the branch located at 200 Gault Avenue North.

Police said a white male entered the bank wearing blue jeans, a long-sleeve button-down shirt, and a black ball cap. The man, armed with a handgun, handed a note to the teller stating it was a robbery. Authorities reported that the suspect took approximately $3,000 before leaving the bank on foot and walking north.

Law enforcement released photos of the suspect and his vehicle. Officials emphasized that there was no immediate threat to the public following the incident.

On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, an arrest warrant was issued for 62-year-old Mark Loveless of Somerset, Kentucky. Loveless was arrested without incident by FBI Task Force Officers and the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office in Pulaski County, Kentucky. He was charged with first-degree robbery and is currently being held in the Pulaski County Jail pending extradition to Fort Payne.

Authorities said Loveless may also face federal charges related to the case.

Fort Payne Police Chief David Davis thanked officers for their swift response and investigators for their diligence in resolving the case. He also expressed gratitude to FBI Birmingham for their assistance and to local businesses that provided security footage, which was instrumental in the arrest.

FBI Special Agent in Charge David R. Fitzgibbons praised the partnerships between agencies, highlighting cooperation between the Fort Payne Police Department, FBI Birmingham, FBI Louisville-London Resident Agency, and FBI Pulaski Task Force Officers.
