U.S. Senator Katie Britt is renewing a longstanding push to relocate U.S. Space Command headquarters to Huntsville after U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, recently announced he expects the decision to be finalized following the confirmation of the next Air Force Secretary.
“There remains no doubt Redstone Arsenal should be home to the permanent Space Command Headquarters,” Sen. Britt (R-Montgomery) said in a statement.
“Huntsville finished first in the Air Force’s Evaluation Phase and Selection Phase and had the most advantages in the decision matrix, a point I raised to Secretary Hegseth in our meeting prior to his Senate confirmation and something I know the Secretary of the Air Force will take into consideration once confirmed.”
“I’ll continue fighting alongside the Alabama delegation to restore the Air Force’s original merit-based decision to select Redstone Arsenal as the permanent basing location for Space Command HQ,” Britt added.

The long-anticipated move has been mired in political back-and-forth since 2021, when the Trump administration identified Redstone Arsenal as the preferred location. That decision was put on hold after President Joe Biden took office and ordered additional reviews. In 2023, Biden announced Space Command would remain in Colorado — a move Alabama officials slammed as politically motivated.
Britt has consistently argued that Huntsville’s selection was rooted in an objective, data-driven process. A Government Accountability Office report and internal Air Force documents have confirmed Redstone Arsenal outperformed competing locations in multiple evaluation categories.
