Katie Britt: Alabama Association of School Boards ‘made correct decision’ withdrawing from National School Boards Association

The National School Board Association (NSAB) continues to receive immense criticism for a letter it sent to the Biden administration in September which suggested that some parents who took to protest over their children’s school curriculum had partaken in domestic terrorism.

Parents across the nation attended school board meetings to raise objection over controversial academic concepts that were being incorporated into the classroom, particularly tenets of Critical Race Theory.

The Alabama Association of School Boards (AASB) last week voted to withdraw its membership from NSAB. While the AASB noted there had long been concerns with the national association, the organization cited the controversial letter as being the deciding factor in its decision to withdraw.

In a statement provided to Yellowhammer News, U.S. Senate hopeful Katie Britt slammed the NSAB and praised the AASB’s move to disassociate.

“The Alabama Association of School Boards made the correct decision in withdrawing from the National School Boards Association. NSBA has clearly lost its way and Alabama funds shouldn’t support its radical political agenda,” declared Britt. “NSBA should be advocating for more local control in education and less federal intrusion. Instead, the group asked the FBI to treat concerned parents as “domestic terrorists” and usurp local law enforcement agencies. This is unacceptable and un-American. This shouldn’t be controversial: parents absolutely have the right to and should be involved in their child’s education.”

She added, “The federal government has no place trying to co-parent with or take power away from hardworking American families. And special interests like the NSBA shouldn’t be trying to use schools across this country to indoctrinate our kids.”

Britt, a vocal proponent of school choice, expressed her desire for education policy to be implemented at the local and state levels of government rather than federal.

“We should be teaching children to love each other, not hate or discriminate; we should be teaching them Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream of equality of opportunity, not training them to expect equality of outcome. I’ll proudly stand with Alabama parents to empower them to make the best possible choices for their child’s future, so that all students in Alabama have the opportunity to live the American Dream regardless of their zip code.”
